Understanding the concept

Plants are living things all around us, and they come in many different shapes and sizes! Think about the big, strong trees you see outside, like a mango tree, or the smaller, bushy plants in a garden, like a rose bush. We can group plants into different types based on how they grow. Very big and strong plants with thick, woody stems are called trees. They often live for many years. Smaller plants that have many branches starting from near the ground are called shrubs; they are not as tall as trees but are still woody, like a hibiscus plant. Then there are very small, soft plants with thin, green stems, which we call herbs, like the mint or coriander you use in cooking. Some plants can't stand straight on their own. Climbers need support to grow upwards, like a money plant climbing a wall. Creepers also can't stand on their own, but they spread along the ground instead, like a pumpkin plant. All these plants have different parts, such as roots that hold them in the soil, a stem that helps them stand, and leaves that make food for the plant. Leaves are very important and come in many shapes and sizes. Plants provides us with food, oxygen to breathe, shelter, and so many other things!
