About this worksheet
Welcome to our engaging Class 3 Computer Science worksheet focusing on Input and Output Devices! This easy practice worksheet is specifically designed for young learners following the CBSE curriculum, helping them build a strong foundation in understanding how computers work. At this stage, it's crucial for children to grasp the basic components of a computer, and identifying input and output devices is a key first step. This worksheet provides a fun and interactive way for students to recognise common devices and understand their fundamental functions. It's perfect for parents who want to support their child's learning at home or for teachers looking for a supplementary resource to reinforce classroom lessons, ensuring alignment with NCERT principles. By completing these exercises, children will develop a clearer picture of how we interact with computers and how computers provide us with information.
What your child will learn
- Identify common input devices used with a computer.
- Recognise various output devices connected to a computer.
- Differentiate between input and output functions of computer peripherals.
- Understand the basic purpose of different computer hardware components.
- Practice associating devices with their correct category (input or output).
Understanding the concept
Every computer, from the one you use at home to the large ones in offices, needs a way for us to tell it what to do, and a way for it to show us the results. This is where input and output devices come in! Think of input devices as the 'sense organs' for the computer. They take information or instructions from us and send it to the computer. For example, when you type on a keyboard, you are giving the computer input. When you move your mouse to click on something, that's also input. A microphone is another input device, converting your voice into data the computer can understand. On the other hand, output devices are how the computer 'talks back' to us. They show or tell us the results of its work. A monitor is an output device because it displays pictures and text. When you print a document, the printer is acting as an output device, giving you a physical copy. Speakers are also output devices, playing music or sounds generated by the computer. So, input is sending information *to* the computer, and output is receiving information *from* the computer.
Tips for parents & teachers
- Encourage your child to point out input and output devices they use at home, like a TV remote (input) or the TV screen (output).
- Go through each question together, asking your child to explain why they chose an device as input or output.
- Use real computer peripherals if available, to make the learning more tangible and hands-on.
- After completing the worksheet, create a game where you name a device, and your child says if it's input or output.
- Review other parts of a computer system briefly to provide context for these specific devices.
