Understanding the concept

Our bodies are like amazing machines, and just like any machine, they need the right kind of fuel to work properly! This fuel comes from the food we eat, and that's where healthy food and nutrition come in. Healthy food gives us energy to play, learn, and grow tall and strong. It helps our brains think clearly and keeps us safe from getting sick. Imagine if you tried to run a car on water instead of petrol – it wouldn't work! In the same way, our bodies need specific foods to give us different things. Some foods, like bread, rice, and potatoes, give us lots of energy. These are called 'energy-giving foods.' Other foods, like milk, cheese, and pulses, help us grow and repair our bodies; these are 'body-building foods.' Then there are fruits and vegetables, which protect our bodies and keep us healthy, known as 'protective foods.' When we eat a mix of all these different types of foods, we are eating a 'balanced diet.' This means we get all the important nutrients our body needs in the right amounts. So, choosing a colourful plate with a variety of foods ensures our body machine stays in top condition!
